Jonathan Started a Blog!

Ok, I will totally admit that I went for a really steep hike instead of properly writing you all this blog post, so welcome to your shortest blog post ever from me. But I do have something wonderfully nerdy for you! Jonathan started writing a blog about engineering in all his favorite applications of it. He’s got four posts up so far. I’ll give a brief summary here, but then I’ll direct you to him!

(The name of his blog is “In Search Of_____” and his post titles complete that sentence. I thought it was wonderfully clever!)

Post 1: A Sense of Discovery. This one is about how Jonathan’s exploration of permafrost data during an internship in oil and gas in Alaska helped him learn about the scientific process, learning, and climate change.

Post 2: An Arduino Based Sensor Sock. I was the test monkey for this project! Jonathan has always had an interest in medical technology, and he was a little horrified by my whole blood clotting escapade. He used his impressive knowledge of electrical engineering and sensors to build a compression sock that monitored the temperature of my leg in real-time to help detect blood clots early. It’s definitely still a work in progress, but we’re both learning a lot!

Post 3: A Backyard Playground. Jonathan loves to ski. He loves to be outside, and he loves to get a good cardio workout in. In this post, he talks about Ben Lomond, the dominant peak of the Ogden skyline.

Post 4: Clean Air. When Jonathan moved to Ogden, he noticed some interesting differences in the air pollution issues both Denver and Salt Lake have. In this post, he describes why those differences happen and how he’s building an air quality sensor to gather data about it.

Aaaaaaand the link to his blog: It’s here!

Jonathan is a skilled writer and an incredibly talented engineer. His writing is definitely aimed at people with a little bit of a science background, but he also loves to answer questions. So if you start reading through and you don’t understand, find him on Facebook and ask away!

One of my favorite things about Jonathan is his incredible desire to learn. He’s always reading something interesting or listening to an interesting podcast or building something to test or learn even more.

Your homework, then, is to think about a person in your life who just straight up is always curious. How do they cultivate their curiosity? How do you cultivate yours?

And thanks for your patience with my shortest post on record!

Hej då,

Jamie
